The Customer

A sizeable barn was constructed as part of the customer’s renovations at their property in the picturesque village of Thornton Curtis. The barn’s original design did not include garage doors or a closure of any kind. However, upon completion, it became apparent that the beams were proving a tempting resting spot for birds! This, paired with the unpredictable British weather, encouraged the homeowner to rethink their plans, deciding that installing garage doors would keep out the birds whilst making their barn a warmer, more usable space.

The Requirements

One of the main reasons for not including garage doors in the barn’s original design was to avoid a visual obstruction of its stunning beams. Therefore, the customer’s number one requirement was a discreet design that wouldn’t impact the building's striking roof space, particularly important when the doors were in the open position. It was also vital that the doors complement the work carried out during their earlier refurbishments, both in terms of style and quality.

The Solution

After listening to the customer’s requirements, Ideal Garage Doors recommended three SeceuroGlide Roller Garage Doors. The guide rails would be neatly concealed behind the existing posts, with the roll and mechanics hidden within a box, and tucked above the garage opening. Importantly, this style of garage door would neither encroach into the roof space nor impact the structural character of the building. The customer was pleased to discover that it was possible to color-match with their newly installed windows, opting for the classic Cream-White RAL 9001M.

The Installation

All three garage doors were installed by Ideal Garage Doors in just two days. Each door was fully made to measure - to the mm! This ensured a perfect fit and a hassle-free installation for the two engineers. Without a need for remote operation, the customer opted for a simple rocker switch. Ideal Garage Doors completed the handover with a product demonstration, a detailed O&M manual and instructions on how to register their new doors for a 7-year warranty.
