NRG Automation were amongst the first to have SWS UK’s new Rapid-Roll installed at their factory in Widnes, Cheshire and are already enjoying the benefits. Rapid-Roll is an innovative high-speed fabric door designed for commercial and industrial applications. Constructed with PVC fabric, it is ideal for large commercial premises where an opening needs to be kept closed, but where access is required frequently and quickly.
Installed earlier this year, Rapid-Roll was used to close off an internal opening between NRG’s despatch area and warehouse. Frequent access through the opening was needed by both forklift trucks and pedestrian traffic, therefore it was essential that the product installed could accommodate a high volume of usage, in this case a minimum of ten cycles per hour. To further assist the continuous running of the factory, NRG opted to have a GFA radar system installed. This presence detection system activates the shutter whenever it is approached by either a person or vehicle, guaranteeing minimal disruption to production.
The use of vision panels within the curtain increases natural daylight and also acts as an important safety feature, whereby personnel can see approaching forklift trucks and pedestrians. Due to the frequency of operation NRG also opted for the self-repair version which, should the curtain become displaced from the guide channels, can be repaired by the operator simply fully opening the door. Upon closing the door leaf will relocate into the guides.Installation of the product was quick, taking just four hours from start to finish and because Rapid-Roll is simple to use, just a simple instructional demonstration was required before NRG were confident in operating the shutter themselves.
Andy Perry from NRG commented on their new installation ‘having a Rapid-Roll door installed has made an incredible improvement to the efficiency and functioning of our warehouse. The industrial door is simple to use but most importantly, it is quick and durable enough to handle the frequency of which it is operated. The innovative radar system has been welcomed by our employees, in particular our forklift drivers who no longer need to get out of their vehicles to open the door.’
